I know, here is another indie romance author writing about the importance of leaving book reviews, but it is true. Most of the time, readers will not touch a book without a review of it. With the amount of competition on Amazon, it is even more important to leave a book review to make an author’s book stand out. If you are one of those readers who do not want to say anything bad, do not know what to say, or  who thinks leaving a rating is not enough, then read further. How to leave a review of a book on Amazon.

 

Bad Reviews

You are not there to tell an author that their book is good. Your review is simply your opinion. It is just one review out of dozens, and the author takes it that way, at least, the sane ones. Here is something you do not know, I used to do book reviews for a website. They were mostly romance books, and I did not always write a complimentary review. Now as a writer, I understand even more that not every story I write is going to be for everyone. Leaving a review can clue the author in on what is working or not working in their book. So, if you want to leave a negative review then do so but try not to be cruel but constructive.

 

Do not Know What to Say

Leaving a review is not that hard. It is about saying how the book affected you. For example, I liked the book because the writing was good. It does not have to be Kafka or Tolstoy it is  just about helping an author out and signaling to other readers why the book would be worth their time or not. Here is a starting point: Ask yourself what I liked about the book, or why I didn’t  like about the book? It also does not need to be a long review. All you need to do is write one to three sentences.

 Leave a Rating

I know that ratings on Amazon are not always the best or a complete way to tell readers how you feel about a book, but it is better than nothing. As an indie author, I would rather receive a rating  if you were too short on time or simply do not want to leave a review. It is better than nothing. If you really do not want to leave a bad review or do not know what to say, a rating is the best way to go.
